Basketball shooting accuracy is a vital talent that may make or break a player's success on the court. Whether you want to be a professional basketball player or simply improve your game, improving your shooting accuracy is essential.
Shooting accuracy is influenced by a variety of elements, including accurate shooting mechanics, footwork, and mental focus. However, one of the most effective strategies to enhance your shooting is to practice on a regular basis.
Practicing shooting can be easily done on a Kangaroo Courts basketball court which offer flexibility, durability and quality.
Getting a court in your backyard can bring so much more ease to practice and this will eventually lead to more frequent sessions improving your skills at a faster pace, so without further adieu here are 3 shooting drills that can take your shot game to the next level.
Nothing but Net Shooting
This simple drill involves selecting a spot about 5-10 feet away from the basket and making a shot. The catch here is the shot has to be ‘clean’ meaning it should go straight into the hoop through the net, no backboard bouncing, no rim bouncing, etc hence the name ‘nothing but net’. Once you make a few shots, around 5 clean shots in a row take a step back from your original position and begin another 5.
You can try different angles as well, starting from straight shots to left corner, right corner etc. This will help improve your overall accuracy and make your shots look nicer as well. In order to maximise the effectiveness of the drill make sure your hoop is at the correct height and sturdy. Kangaroo Courts offer a wide range of in-ground and wall mounted hoops. One- Armed Shooting
While we usually use two arms to shoot, having to practice the balance and accuracy with one hand can really improve your final shot form, this also adds to the advantage in some-instances where you might have to alley-oop a shot. To perform this drill, stand at a spot close to the basket (5-10 feet) and get into the shooting position, knees bent and body loaded.
Once you are in that position steadily remove your guiding hand away from the ball (if you're a right hand shooter, remove your left hand and vice versa) and place it behind your back. Once you are ready, follow with the shot, no jumping, just a spring-like action without leaving the ground. Try combine the shots with ‘nothing but net’ practice to further develop your accuracy.
10 In a Row From the Free Throw
This is a very simple but effective drill, all you have to do is ensure that you take 10 consecutive shots from the free throw line. If you miss one the counter resets to 0 and you start again, by doing this not only do you simulate pressure situations in a game but you also build your endurance of consistency.
To ensure the results reflect well in a game ensure the free throw line is the correct distance from the basket. Kangaroo Courts offers to do measurements when setting up your home basketball court so you do not have to worry about that.
In conclusion
Shooting is a very vital part of a basketball game and perfecting it will make you the star of the game. If you can get buckets you can get the win, it's that simple. So what are you waiting for, start training today with Kangaroo Courts.
